Lalitpur is a historic district in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, with Lalitpur city as its administrative headquarters. It is believed that Raja Sumer Singh founded the city and named it after his wife, Lalita. The district is also mentioned in the Ramayana and Mahabharata and is described in ancient texts such as the Yajur Purana and Vishnu Purana. The Betwa River forms its northern and western boundaries. The Mahavir Swami Sanctuary at Deogarh is a major tourist attraction. The abundance of concrete and granite stone has established Lalitpur as an important centre of the mining industry. Under the One District One Cuisine Programme, Doodh ka Halwa and Bajre ki Roti have been selected for Lalitpur district.

Bajre ki Roti of Bundelkhand has a distinctive identity because of its simplicity, nutritional value, and traditional taste. It is a gluten-free flatbread rich in fibre, iron, and protein. It is locally eaten with dal, garlic chutney, or jaggery.

Lalitpur’s traditional Doodh ka Halwa is prepared using milk, sugar, and dry fruits and is famous for its taste and quality. Its purity, traditional preparation method, and long-standing heritage passed down through generations make it distinctive. It is associated not only with the district’s cultural traditions but also serves as an important source of local employment. More than 1,000 people are employed across over 100 units engaged in this industry.
