Situated in the region along the Yamuna River, Baghpat has historical associations with the Mahabharata period. The district is known for advanced sugarcane cultivation. Its soil is also famous for wrestling and Dangal traditions, which have produced several international wrestlers and soldiers for the country. Under the One District One Cuisine Programme, Balushahi and Ghevar have been selected for Baghpat district.

Ghevar has been woven into Baghpat’s festive food traditions for generations, particularly during the monsoon celebrations of Teej and Raksha Bandhan. A thin flour-and-ghee batter is carefully poured into hot ghee to form its characteristic honeycomb pattern, then soaked in sugar syrup and often garnished with nuts. Its crisp, porous texture and rich sweetness have made Ghevar one of Baghpat’s most celebrated traditional delicacies.

Crispy and delicious Baghpat prepared using refined flour, ghee, and sugar syrup is extremely popular in Ambedkar Nagar, particularly in Akbarpur, Tanda, and Jalalpur. More than 600 people are employed across over 100 units engaged in this industry.
